It’s Go Time!
I am all packed up, ready to go! Four months of preparation and training has come down to one day! I never thought the day would come but in a mere 2 days I will be running 26.2 miles!
Can you tell I am a little excited?
Even though I am excited, I am dealing with a bit of a cold. Figures. I have been so careful before every single one of my races this year and sure enough, my race of the year and I am sick! I started feeling “off” earlier this week and was sorta in denial about it. But Wednesday I knew it was a full blown cold. All day yesterday I took every homeopathic remedy I could think of; zinc tablets, Emergen-C, echinacea tea, wheatgrass in addition to traditional cold medicine including NyQuil at night. Last night I felt pretty bad, I was completely stuffed up, I was achey and I had a horrible headache. So I took the NyQuil around 9 last night and finally drifted off to sleep just before 11pm. Luckily since I had today off I was able to sleep in and wake up naturally, well as naturally as one can wake up when you have a puppy that likes to start whining at 6am. I felt so much better this morning. I am still a little stopped up, but nothing terrible. I think staying hydrated will help with that and my dry throat. I WILL run this race! I will not let a cold stop me. The weather is suppose to be perfect, I have trained correctly, I am without injury, I will not let a stuffy nose stop me!
Scottie and I did laundry last night so I packed this morning to make sure I had everything in order. There is a lot to think about! I should be a pro at this since triathlons require so much stuff and you would think running a simple race would mean you would just need running shoes. Wrong!

I have a short sleeve and long sleeve shirt (both purple, I bought a long sleeve purple shirt last night at Ross!) shorts and capris, sports bra, socks, sunglasses, ECU visor, pre race throw away clothes (see lovely Disney sweatshirt from Goodwill), post race shirt and pants, running “fanny pack”, Recoverite, Body Glide, Luna Moons, mini Larabar and Fig Newtons. Whew! Oh and my shoes, which are not pictured but most important!
I went back and forth on what to bring with me for the run and I decided not to bring the hydration belt since there will be plenty of water stops but decided to bring Luna Moons in case for some reason they ran out of Hammer Gels on the course, and I also brought the Larabar and Fig Newtons because I found right around mile 20 I got REALLY hungry so I think having solid food will be useful when I am feeling really empty. Plus the Larabar is ginger snap so I think that will help with any stomach uneasiness, not that I have had that problem, but just in case. So much to think about!
Oh and here is Scottie’s race day gear.

Eww blurry pic sorry!
So I think we are as ready as we are going to be! My mind is all over the place and I have moments where I think about finishing the race and I get all nervous and excited! I can’t wait for this race!
Enough for now, will post a complete race report on Monday (maybe Sunday if I am feeling up to it) so stay tuned!

Oh man, I can totally relate to having a bad cold right before your big race!!! I was taking all that homeopathic stuff too. To tell you the truth, the best thing was the Tylenol Severe Sinus. That got me thru my race. Hope you felt okay on race day!
